Other Names and Terminology for Airbag Vests

Airbag vests are safety vests worn by cyclists to help prevent injury in the event of a collision where the rider is thrown from the cycle. The vests are designed to inflate, offering protection from impact caused injuries.
How airbag vests work
The airbag vest is worn like any other clothing except that it is tethered to the vehicle via a steel cable with a release mechanism. Once the rider is thrown from the cycle, the airbag vest inflates in under a quarter of a second with a CO2 gas cylinder. This offers protection to the neck, chest, back, sides and hip areas nearly instantly.
Terminology of the airbag vest
Airbag vests are also available as neck vests. These variant names represent differing levels of coverage and protection. The key box refers to the place where the coiled steel cable is tethered to the CO2 cylinder with the key ball. The one-touch release mechanism is the quick connect and disconnect inline hardware designed to allow the rider to leave the cycle without having to take the cable with them. The full-bagged vests and jackets have neck airbags to protect the head and neck area as well as air bags to provide protection for the ribs, back and tail bone regions of the body.
Airbag vests offer maximum safety for cyclists protecting riders from injuries resulting from a crash that throws the rider off of the cycle. There are a variety of vest styles to suit the needs of cyclists, and each vest or jacket has individualized features.
