How Airbag Vests Work

Airbag vests and jackets are the newest safety recommendation for both motorcyclists and equestrian riders. These vests and jackets provide extra protection should the rider get into any kind of accident or thrown from a horse or motorcycle. Airbag jackets look like regular riding jackets but still protect the rider more than a regular jacket.
Motorcycles
Motorcyclists often wear jackets and helmets as a form of protection. While the helmet can protect the head during an impact, a jacket does not always provide a lot of safety against the road and other dangers. The airbag jackets inflate using a CO2 canister when the tether attached to the motorcycle is released. This air helps to protect the neck and back, inflating in only 2/10ths of a second from the release of the tether. These jackets even help to protect against car versus motorcycle accidents.
Equestrian riding
Equestrian riding is a dangerous sport, and the airbag vests inflates if a rider is thrown from the horse. The tether of the vest is attached to the saddle and releases the CO2 when it is undone. Falls from a horse are dangerous or even fatal because of the distance to the ground from the large animal. The vest quickly inflates, providing padding for the rider as he or she falls to the ground. It also protects the neck and the back from the impact.
Airbag vests and jackets make riding activities such as equestrian and motorcycling safer. They are easy to wear, and do not provide a lot of extra bulk for the rider. At the same time, there is extra protection if something happens.
